Topic: Nebraska Veterans Mission of Mercy Dental Event
Dr. Craft graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry in 1980 and immediately joined the U.S. Public Health Service as a Commissioned Officer assigned to the Indian Health Service in Alaska. For 20 years, he served Native American patients in village clinics, regional centers, and base hospitals throughout remote regions of the state, and he was promoted to the rank of 0-6 Captain.
In 2000, he moved to Southeast Asia where he was the Chief Dental Officer for the International SOS Medical Company and the Dental Consultant for the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Continuing his service as a Reserve Officer, he was directly detailed to the Department of Defense for more than 30 stability operations and humanitarian assistance medical missions in over 15 foreign countries as part of the Global War on Terror. He served with all branches of the military and deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom with the U.S. Army Special Operations Task Force to the southern Philippines in 2007 and the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division to southern Afghanistan in 2008.
He is the founder of the East meets West Dental Program in Da Nang, Vietnam, in 1995. Over the past 25 years, this international humanitarian relief organization has provided free and modern dental care services to more than 175,000 underserved children living in the post-war central provinces and impoverished rural hamlets while also working with more than 1,500 dental volunteers and students from countries around the world.
Dr. Craft has received numerous professional awards during his transpacific career, including the Outstanding Service Medal from the U.S. Surgeon General, the Meritorious Service Medal from the Department of Defense, and the Royal Sahametri Knight Medal from the Prime Minister of Cambodia. He is the recipient of the UNMC College of Dentistry Alumni Distinguished Service Award and was honored with the American
Dental Association’s Humanitarian Award in 2019. He joined the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and became the State Dental Health Director in April 2014.
At its meeting on Wednesday, September 9, the Rotary 14 Board of Directors implemented a new safety policy. The policy reads:
If any guest attending a Rotary 14 meeting or event makes a Club 14 Member feel unsafe, said member can reach out to the Sergeant-at-Arms or another Club officer, who may ask the guest to leave.
We sincerely hope this policy never needs to be implemented. However, creating an environment where our members feel safe, supported, and comfortable is a priority for Rotary 14.

Rotary Reserved is Back! Are you new to Rotary 14 and want to get to know other members over good food and interesting conversation? Maybe you are a long-time member who hasn't had a chance to connect with the many new Rotarians who have joined our club in the last few years.
Strengthening our connection with other members of Rotary 14 is an important part of keeping our club strong. And a dinner party can create an intimate, intentional space to combat modern isolation and foster genuine human connection. Our Connections Committee members are ready to host small dinners in the coming month as an opportunity for members to get to know one another over a meal.
The Dictionary Project is a long-standing Rotary tradition and a collaboration between three Lincoln Rotary clubs to provide a dictionary to every third grade student in the city of Lincoln (both public & private schools). There are 2 parts to the project: (1) the Labeling Party, and (2) Dictionary Delivery. We invite you to be part of both!
Labeling Party This gathering of volunteers from 3 Lincoln Rotary clubs is an evening of fun as we gather to place Rotary labels in the front inside cover of almost 4,000 dictionaries. Then we box them up in the quantities needed for each school. If you are also delivering dictionaries, you can take your boxes with you after the labeling party. Come hungry, as pizza will be provided! Here are the details for the party:

Dictionary Delivery Between October 1 and 31, we need volunteers to deliver dictionaries to third grade classrooms. There is not a specific date for delivery, but a time frame during which volunteers contact the school and set up a date and time. The schools on the sign-up are the ones that Rotary 14 is assigned. Other schools are assigned to the other Rotary clubs.
Note: Lincoln Public Schools will begin a dictionary unit for their third graders in November, so our goal is to have all dictionaries delivered in time for that.

Salute to Business, an event of the four Rotary Clubs in Lincoln, honors a local business that is growing employment and furthers the Rotary motto of “Service Before Self.”

Hannah has lived in Nebraska her whole life and was raised on her family's vegetable and cut-flower farm near Waverly. She attended York College, where she majored in Psychology and was a member of the XC and Track team. She met her husband, Conrad, in school, and they got married right after she graduated. They welcomed their daughter, Lyla, into the family in 2024!
Before working with Rotary 14, Hannah spent almost 6 years in various roles at Christian Heritage, a local foster care and prevention services agency.
In her spare time, Hannah loves hunting, working on her yard and garden, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her faith and family ground her in everything she does.
Fun fact: Hannah is a Gallup Strengths nerd, and her top 5 strengths are Responsibility, Achiever, Maximizer, Relator, and Discipline.
Hannah will be learning the ropes of Rotary 14 with Lauren through the end of December. She'll fully enter the role on January 1 as a part-time contract worker, focusing on supporting the President, the Board, and Club membership. She'll be at the Membership Table at our Sept. 15 meeting. Stop by, introduce yourself, and give her a warm Rotary welcome!
