Rotary 14 Wishes the Whitney Family a Merry Christmas
Impressive and overwhelming support to the Whitney family during the most challenging time of their lives as Rotarians came together and showered the Whitney family with Rotary fellowship and Christmas gifts. The gift-giving was done on December 20, 2019, in Seward, Nebraska. President Mailani Veney is the main proponent of Christmas gift-giving to families impacted by cancer in partnership with Lynette's Angels. The Board approved the project in its November 14, 2019 Board meeting. The full story of the project can be found by clicking here. Director John Gessert and Secretary Randy Hawthorne facilitated the fundraising drive for the Whitney family. We raised a total of $3,234.85 for the Whitney family. What an impressive show of sharing our Christmas blessings! Rotary 14 was represented by President Mailani Veney, Ryan Foor, and Lisa Lee at the gift-giving in Seward last Friday. Here are some screengrab photos from the live coverage at the gift-giving. You can replay the live coverage on our Facebook Page, click here.

Welcome Newest Member Rico Zavala

Recently, Past President Mark Stephens introduced our new newest Rotarian, Rico Zavala. Rico was born in Grand Island, Nebraska and is a graduate of Wood River Rural High School.  Rico attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he graduated in 2004 with degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology.

Rico began working with CEDARS Youth Services in 2005 where he continues to serve today.  Currently, Rico is the Director of Services for CEDARS where he gets to opportunity to oversee many of the day to day operations and services being provided to youth and families.  Rico believes that collaboration, partnership, and selflessness are key when working to improve our community. Rico is active in the community as he serves as Vice President for the Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association, is on the Board of Directors for the Bridge Behavioral Health, serves as Vice President on the Norris Baseball Association Board of Directors, is a member of Nebraska Coalition for Juvenile Justice and is a proud alum of Leadership Lincoln Class 32.

Rico and his wife Angela have been married for 15 years and reside in Hickman with their 3 children.  Rico enjoys spending time with his family, coaching youth sports and visiting all the amazing breweries Lincoln has to offer.

Thank you, Mark, for sponsoring Rico to Rotary. Welcome to Rotary, Rico!

Click here to donate online to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International (RI). Donating to The Rotary Foundation is a great opportunity for Rotarians to give back.  Consider making your annual donation NOW.  Your money comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants to spend on our projects.  Your donation goes around the world to promote peace and conflict prevention & resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education, and literacy, and economic and community development. Every Rotarian Every Year asks that you consider a gift of at least $100 to The Rotary Foundation.

You can also bring a check made out to The Rotary Foundation to our weekly meeting and Yolanda will send it with the contribution form to TRF. Any questions, please contact TRF Chair Scott Larson at 402.499.4444.
