At the Rotary District 5650 Conference (Oct. 13-14, 2023), Dr. Klaus Hartmann of Lincoln Rotary 14 was presented with the 2024 Cadwallader Award during Saturday's awards dinner. This award is the highest honor given in the Rotary District.
This annual Cadwallader Award is presented in honor of Charles N. Cadwallader who served as President of Lincoln Rotary Club 14, District Governor, and Director of Rotary International, as well as sponsored eleven Rotary Clubs in the District. The award is presented to a Rotarian in District 5650 who has made a monumental contribution in one or all of the avenues of Rotary service. The award is made possible by an endowed gift from Charles N. and Ruth Cadwallader.
Lyn Leach leads the Roughriders Motorcycle Riding Group, an organization raising ~$45K annually through events and sponsorships. The group picks a dozen families experiencing hardship and visits their home with a heartwarming donation leading up to the holidays, and supports local nonprofits such as Make-A-Wish, Center for People in Need, and Autism Family Networks. To him, the "Golden Wheel" symbolizes the motorcycles used to deliver donations.
Each of the 38 Rotary Clubs in District 5650 hosted a Golden Wheel honoree selected by their members at a special dinner on October 14 as part of the Rotary District 5650 Conference. The recognition is given to a non-Rotarian in the community who is giving back through service.

Our Club celebrates Veterans Day each year with gusto—this year in the Talon room on Tues., Nov. 7. If you're a Vet in Club 14—especially new members—make sure our “In Club Celebrations Committee” has your name, branch of service, and a picture of you in uniform, if possible, for inclusion in our Veteran Club Member “Roll Call” at the November 7 meeting.
Please send your service information and pictures, if possible, to Committee members Sandi Fabry, Tim Kenny, or General Roger Lempke. If you're a Club 14 member, consider inviting a Veteran you know to the meeting to celebrate with us along with the many community Vets we've already invited to the meeting.
We have great music and a great program planned! Invite a Vet, send us your Veteran data, and join us for a great annual celebration.
