Joy! Just joy!! That's how it felt to celebrate Rotary Club 14 Foundation's 25th anniversary. Club 14 Rotarians made it clear that either social or work settings are ideal for contemplating and remembering how to make a difference anywhere. We gathered to acknowledge our past and pay tribute to the people who were founders. It helped to rethink the big steps and the big thinking that propelled the Foundation into being. Assessing our present gives ample evidence that imagining beyond ourselves and pushing past the norm is how we implement Service Above Self and grow the Foundation at the same time. It seems likely that pressing forward, imagining our future, and building beyond capacity, just as the founders did, will require more of the same grit and gusto, only digitized. Membership in Rotary 14 ensures personal and professional development while it broadens hope and compassion through combined efforts to serve humanity. Joy! And more JOY!!
Recently, President Christina Usher announced Victoria Grasso as the winner of the recently concluded vote for the elected representative to Rotary 14's Project Grant Evaluation Committee. Victoria Grasso is President of the Cooper Foundation. The PGE Committee comprises nine members who are tasked to review, evaluate, and make recommendations to the board regarding grant applications. One of the three expiring terms this year needs to be an elective position, while the other two vacancies shall be filled by Club and Foundation presidential appointments. Victoria Grasso will serve the elective position of the PGE Committee. Congratulations, Victoria!
Recently, Rotary Club 14 member Dr. Regina Werum attended a weekly meeting of the Rotary Club Mainz 50° Nord (Germany; https://mainz-50-nord.rotary.de/). On this occasion, Mainz 50° Nord -- so named because the city is located on the 50° latitude – held a special dinner event at a regional bank renowned for both its post -WW2 abstract art collection as well as a trove of amazing, Roman artifacts discovered when the building was constructed in 2018 in the former Customs Port area along the Rhine River (check this out! https://www.lbbw-immobilien.de/de/lbbw-immobilien-gruppe/presse/seltener-amphoren-fund-in-der-baugrube-fur-das-buroensemble-rheinkontor-im-zollhafen-mainz).

District 5650 District Conference July 8 - 9, 2022, REGISTER NOW The Hoff Family Culture and Arts Center 1001 S 6th St Council Bluffs, IA 51501
We promise you that this event will be highly interactive, super interesting, and great fun. It is all about you so, of course, it will be those things! Besides, Dwayne Brown (Improv extraordinaire) is our emcee!
Some special notes:
Thursday, July 7, 1pm-4pm. This is a special pre-conference event for anyone who wants to grow and learn about cutting-edge leadership concepts and practices. Hear from thought leaders in the areas of inclusive leadership, leading in the Great Resignation, leading strategic initiatives, and using your influence to make global impact. This session is free and will be held at Full Fledged Brewery in Council Bluffs.
Thursday, July 7, 5-8pm. PARTY! Gather with fellow Rotarians (and potential Rotarians as it is open to the public) for some local pizza, salad, and of course awesome beer (it is also at Full Fledged Brewery). But best of all the Rotary Band (we need a funky name for these folks) will be playing a few songs we know by heart. Very special thank you to Mick McKinley and Mark Sanford for leading our band.
Kids are welcome and encouraged. We just need to know they are coming. Please register you and them early so we can have plans in place. Our Kids Activities Chair is an expert, Conor O'Hara! (he's an actual kid).
