Founded in 2006, HUDL is based in Lincoln’s Haymarket District and has over 2,000 employees in Lincoln and 3,200 worldwide in 17 countries. From the beginning, they have sourced talent from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, especially the Jeffrey S. Raikes School. HUDL founders David Graff, CEO, John Wirtz, CPO and Brian Kaise, CTO were fellow students in the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management. They created a groundbreaking company to provide tools for coaches and athletes to review game footage and improve team play. They have 200,000 teams and more than 6 million users around the world rely on their system for 40 sports, providing video services to youth, amateur, and professional teams in American football as well as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse.
According to Forbes magazine, “With about 98 percent of all high schools working with HUDL for at least one sport, not to mention every single team in the English Premier League, most of Bundesliga, La Liga, Chinese Basketball Association and Super Rugby, HUDL is growing worldwide, at a variety of levels.”
HUDL has made meaningful contributions to the Lincoln economy with its growing workforce. In addition to serving as a magnet for other startups in the Silicone Prairie, they have continued to source talent from their founders’ alma mater. They contributed over $500,000 for scholarships for students to attend the Raikes School. They have also partnered with Lincoln Public Schools to create the “Education Outside the Classroom” program.
