NO ROTARY MEETING January 3, 2023 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year 2023 Background Decoration
Welcome Newest Rotarian Joe Shaw
Recently, Leslie Levy introduced to Rotary our newest Rotarian Joe Shaw. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joe has a degree in Journalism from California State University, Los Angeles. Joe spent 25 years in Southern California, winning awards as a non-profit communicator at the Braille Institute, the AIDS Service Center in Pasadena and more recently as President of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, leading efforts to save the last privately owned parcels of wetlands in Huntington Beach, CA. “Giving back is what drives me,” Joe says, “I think supporting and volunteering in your community is the rent you pay for being here on this Earth.” Joe served on the Huntington Beach City Council from 2010-2014 and moved to Lincoln in January 2015. After serving as Fund Development Manager, Interim Director and Associate Director for the last four years, Joe was hired as Executive Director in May 2019. “I’m happy to be here at the LUX, because I know how important art and art education are to the health, well-being and quality of life of a city.“

Last Week at Rotary
Last week at Rotary was our annual Christmas & Holiday Party. Thanks to Party Chair Sandi Fabry and her committee for coordinating the party. The white elephant gift exchange was a blast, thanks to Rod and Robin Bates. We raised a couple of hundred dollars for the Rotary 14 Foundation. Thank you for your generosity in expressing our thanks to the chef and server at Talon Room. We gifted them with almost $800. Allen Beermann presented President John Gessert with a special pen from King Charles of the United Kingdom and Administrator Yolanda Hoffman with a bracelet from the Philippines. Both Gessert and Hoffman received a lovely corsage and boutonniere from Bruce Rippeteau. We also welcomed the newest Rotarian, Joe Shaw, sponsored by Leslie Levy and Margaret Berry. Special thanks to Amber Nore for providing the holiday music. Below are photos from the Christmas party. Click here for the Christmas photo album.

President John Gessert opened the Christmas party.
It was also a dance party for Rod and Robin Bates, Mailani Veney and Roger Lempke.

Sandi Fabry and Allen Beermann gave their party concluding remarks.

Martha's Home Dedication
On Saturday, October 29, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and members of Lincoln Rotary Club 14, Lincoln Women of Today, Lincoln Quilting Guild and the REALTORS Association of Lincoln gathered to celebrate Martha's home dedication. What a special occasion! Lincoln Rotary Club 14 is proud to be a contributing member to this project.

Big shout out to Immediate Past President Christina Usher, who was instrumental in making Rotary part of Martha's home as the recipient of the proceeds from Rise.Shine.Give last year. Below is the video of Martha's Home Dedication.

What is Polio?
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Our goal
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within ten years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Opportunity for Club Service
Every week, we need your help to run the meeting by serving as Greeters and Cashiers. You get attendance credit every time you serve at our weekly meeting. More importantly, it's the best way to meet fellow Rotarians. Volunteer now, click here.
