Presentation: The Governor will talk about how Nebraska is growing and his vision to make state government more effective, more efficient, and more customer-focused.
Governor Pete Ricketts was sworn in as Nebraska’s 40th Governor on January 8, 2015. He was first elected to office upon winning the Nebraska gubernatorial election on November 4, 2014. Over the last four years, Governor Ricketts has worked with the Legislature to deliver over $840 million in direct property tax relief, dramatically reduce the rate of state spending growth, create new workforce development programming, cut unnecessary red tape to bolster Nebraska’s business-friendly climate, and expand international markets for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers. Thanks in part to the Governor’s leadership, Nebraska has won the Governor’s Cup for the most economic development projects per capita three years in a row.
Recently, Art Knox introduced returning Rotarian Doug Mathers. Doug was a member of Rotary 14 from 1995 to 2012, where he had the opportunity to serve in the Rotary Board. After graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan, Doug Mathers grew up in the automobile business. Starting at an early age, Doug worked in his father’s car business in Denison, Iowa. Most recently, Doug was the General Manager for Russwood Chrysler for 22 years until 2012. Since 2012, Doug has focused on different investments, with commercial and residential real estate being his major focus. In 2016 Doug invested in a small retail fireworks company with his 2 sons, Austin and Evan. “Patriot Pete’s Fireworks has been a great way to give back to our community.
Doug has a family history of Rotary service – his father and grandfather were both active Rotarians. Welcome back to Rotary, Doug!

Recently, Bryan Seck introduced our newest Rotarian, Chris Whitney. Chris is excited to help contribute to such a wonderful and welcoming city and organization! Chris was born in Lincoln, is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School, 2007 University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate and previously worked in radio and television in Lincoln, Norfolk and Omaha. With a background in broadcasting and communications, he is currently the Communications Coordinator for the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau and Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development, helping spread the good word of all three organizations throughout the community and region. Chris and his wife Lindsay reside in Omaha and they enjoy traveling, visiting local craft breweries and going to concerts. Thank you, Bryan for sponsoring Chris to Rotary.

Families affected by cancer will receive Christmas gifts from Lincoln Rotarians in partnership with Lynette's Angels. We have been assigned the Whitney Family. Here's the information of the Whitney family as provided by Lynette's Angels:
"The Whitney Family: Spencer, April, Nolan (Seward High Senior) and Drew (Seward High Freshman).
Spencer was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma Grade 3 tumor in his brain back in July of 2015. Shortly after, he had surgery to remove the brain tumor only to find out they couldn't get the entire tumor out. After surgery, they followed up with many rounds of chemo and radiation after to help continue to shrink his tumor. Spencer hasn't been able to work for sometime due to the effects of his brain cancer, so to keep their family afloat, April is currently working 3 jobs to try to support their family. We can't imagine how hard things truly are for them right now. We got the pleasure of meeting with them and the love and care we saw between them was definitely inspiring. Spencer has a fighting spirit and they are truly the kindest people. They are absolutely humbled that they were nominated, and chosen as recipients in this extremely difficult season in their lives."

Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army this past weekend was a huge success with over 80 Rotarians, friends and family staffed the Salvation Army bell ringing posts located at Super Saver, Hy-Vee and Hobby Lobby. Big thanks to all Rotarians for volunteering and for inspiring their family and friends to volunteer with them. Special thanks to Jay Wexler for organizing our bell ringing this year. Jay will soon give a report, with photos and videos, including the amount raised for the Salvation Army.
