Recently, Regina Werum introduced our newest member Courtney Hillebrecht. Dr. Courtney Hillebrecht is the Samuel Clarke Waugh Distinguished Professor of International Relations and a faculty member in the Department of Political Science at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Hillebrecht is eager to connect with Rotarians in Lincoln and beyond, particularly to contribute to Rotary’s international service projects and to the RYLA program. As an international relations and human rights scholar, Dr. Hillebrecht sees the importance of international service projects in improving the quality of life and well-being for marginalized communities around the world and is keen to contribute to Club 14 and Rotary’s mission. Further, as a high school student, Dr. Hillebrecht was a RYLA participant and found the experience to be challenging, eye-opening, and transformative. She wants to pay it forward by helping the next generation of leaders grow.

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Hillebrecht and her family have called Lincoln home since 2010. Dr. Hillebrecht is an alumna of Middlebury College in Vermont, where she completed her B.A., and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned her MA and Ph.D. Dr. Hillebrecht scholarship and teaching focus on international human rights law, and she recently published a new book about the future of international law and justice. On campus, she also is an advocate for reducing equity gaps and improving student success outcomes.
