Clean water. We take it for granted here in Lincoln, but in many parts of the world the quest for clean water seems never ending. On September 25, we’ll hear about projects in Meru County, Kenya helping eradicate poverty, disease, hunger, and illiteracy (that’s right . . . the quest for water often keeps children out of school). Bishop Catherine Mutua, will be our speaker sharing details about how Rotary has helped bring clean water to the people of Kenya. Unlike Nebraska, which has rivers and an abundant aquifer, much of Kenya is classified as water scarce with most of its land mass falling under arid and semi-arid categories. Rotary 14 has partnered with Rotary clubs in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming on a major Rotary International grant project to help provide clean water for Meru County. (Story by Randy Bretz)
