Name, Image and Likeness
Topic: NIL — What's That?
Guest Speakers:  Katie Hoffman, General Counsel - Opendorse & Chris Aumueller, CEO/Founder - FanWord

Our program for September 19 will focus on NIL. NIL stands for "Name, Image, and Likeness." It is a term used to describe the ability of college athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness. This can include things like autograph signings, product endorsements, social media posts, and more.

The NCAA had long prohibited college athletes from profiting from their NIL, but this changed in July 2021. The NCAA adopted a new policy that allows college athletes to make money from their NIL, subject to certain restrictions. Our program will include Katie Hoffman, General Counsel for Opendorse, a Lincoln company that is a leader in the NIL industry. Katie is an attorney, and she has an athletic background as a swimmer for UNL, and a Masters Degree with an emphasis on intercollegiate athletics administration. We’ll also hear from Chris Aumueller, a young man who started a company called FanWord. He is the CEO & Founder of the company dedicated to helping student-athletes build, protect, and monetize their personal brands. Chris is originally from Germany and came to Nebraska in 2008 — he played tennis for the Huskers. He earned his MBA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
