L to R: Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, 2022 Nebraskan of the Year Judi gaiashkibos, Rotary 14 President Christina Usher, and Rotary District Governor Carol Horner
April 19, 2022. For the first time in the 33 years of presenting the Nebraskan of the Year Award, the Rotary Club of Lincoln chose a Native American, Judi gaiashkibos to receive the award. She is the director of the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs and a member of the Ponca Tribe. The Rotary Club hailed her as a “cultural mediator and bridge builder” between government and Native Americans. Judi promoted several successful legislative bills. One bill called for an in-depth study of missing and murdered children in Nebraska. She advocates for the children forced to attend the Genoa U.S. Indian School in Nebraska who ended up missing or dead. She was honored to receive the award and is glad that her grandfather's story is finally being told. Congratulations, Judi! Click here for KLKN TV coverage of the 2022 Nebraskan of the Year.

Lincoln, NE (March 30, 2022) Rotary clubs in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa combined efforts with dozens more scattered across the upper Midwest to airlift medical supplies to Poland and ultimately Ukraine. The effort was initiated by members of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) based in Chicago and resulted in 50 tons of medical supplies and proved that when people of all types and backgrounds work together, good things result.
