Countering Gerrymandering with Math: Gerrymandering is the practice of manipulating the boundaries of an electoral constituency to favor one party or class. Steve will give a quick history of gerrymandering and the court cases around it. He will describe "packing" and "cracking", the principal methods for gerrymandering. He will mention some mathematical ways to detect gerrymandering. Various remedies for gerrymandering are being considered in several states, including Nebraska, and he will finish with a discussion of them.
