Mentors for International Students
Oct 15, 2020 - Apr 30, 2021

How would you like to fulfill Rotary’s mission while having a positive impact on the life of an international or Rotaract university student in the Lincoln area?  Following the International Student Event (Picnic) in September, we saw a huge demand for mentorship with Rotarians.  We’re looking for Rotarians that are interested in meeting with a student at least 1X per month during the school year with a focus on providing guidance & coaching on career and helping each student build a successful future.  Outside of that, where you take each mentorship will depend on individual goals and aspirations and how you mutually decide to work together.  We often hear that mentors get just as much out of a mentoring relationship as the mentee.

I’m sure all of us can recount someone that has helped us along the way as we navigated our careers & life.  Now it’s your turn - hop on board for this valuable experience & help Rotary prepare our future generation!

The expected start date is October 2020 – more information to come.

Rotary 14 Virtual Coffee - February 19, 2021
Amanda Barker, Deputy Executive Director of Civic Nebraska, will discuss what Civic Nebraska is all about. Most interesting is their recent release of the 2020 Civic Health Index!
Amanda’s work focuses on helping communities of all sizes create a vibrant civic infrastructure through social connectedness and community engagement. Growing up on a farm near Nebraska City, Amanda learned firsthand the value of being an active community member. She has developed a background in nonprofit work and community development through her time at MindMixer, the Nebraska Tourism Commission, and the Arbor Day Foundation. Amanda serves on a handful of boards in Lincoln, including The Foundry and Clinic with a Heart, and is a Leadership Lincoln Fellows XXXIII alum. Outside the office, she can most likely be found reading, attempting house renovation projects with her husband Scott, or enjoying time with her young daughter, Laney.

Getting to Know C-SPAN

May 11, 2021

Doug Hemmig has been at C-SPAN for over 21 years and is currently a member of its community relations team. He spends his time representing C-SPAN to a wide variety of communities all over the country and sharing how C-SPAN’s resources and content can be a valuable way to follow what is going on in Washington. He loves his job because of the important mission of the network and the dedicated colleagues he works with every day.

Doug began his time at C-SPAN working on the affiliate relations team. He represented C-SPAN to the cable industry at various events. He also advocated for the carriage of C-SPAN on cable systems all over the country. He also set up community events and promoted educational content to teachers all over the country. Earlier in his career, he was a Community Relations Manager for the American Red Cross. There he coordinated with hospitals to provide an adequate supply of blood to local communities in case of an emergency.

Doug grew up in the DC area and is often referred to as Boiler around the C-SPAN offices for his love of all things Purdue University related. In his spare time, he is a Rotarian in Rockville, coaches youth basketball, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse, and has coached for over 20 years. He is married for over 25 years and has four wonderful children.
